Title

Nickki Dickens

My name is Nickki Dickens, I have worked with children, young people and their families for over eight years in a range of settings, across Teesside. I am an accredited Child & Adolescent Therapist, working in a private practice and in partnership with The Bungalow Partnership, a local charity, I work within many primary and secondary schools, specialist education provisions and Local Authorities in Teesside.

I started my training in Transactional Analysis at the Northern Guild of Psychotherapists in Newcastle and have undertaken further training, integrating other models to support and develop my work. I have found that my passion is to support and help children, young people and their families through the difficulties they are experiencing.

My warm, relational approach is the foundation of my work with children, young people and their parents. As an Integrative Child and Adolescent Therapist, my aim is to enable each person to communicate and feel understood from the difficulties from their past or current experiences. This means finding each person’s unique ways of expressing themselves, adapting my technique and interventions to meet their need. I create a safe space so that children and young people are able to safely bring their most painful thoughts and feelings into a safe space, in the room with me. At the same time, humour and fun are important aspects of my work.

I am trained in EMDR and DDP (Dyadic developmental Psychotherapy) and I’m AIM3 certified. Using these informed practices and interventions within my work. I have experience and knowledge in working with child sexual abuse trauma & HSB Trauma work, (Children displaying Harmful sexual behaviours) and intra-familiar abuse. (Siblings abuse).

My work is guided by relation psychoanalysis, supported by research into child development and attachment. An attuned therapeutic relationship is therefore key, and the communication through our conscious and unconscious relationship is enhanced by the use of the various creative mediums along with sand tray, using Metaphor and play.
